A good essential question can spark student inquiry, engage their thinking, and open doors to understanding the big ideas of the curriculum. Join co-author, Jay McTighe, for an engaging workshop to examine key ideas from the best-selling ASCD book, Essential Questions: Opening Doorways to Student Understanding (McTighe and Wiggins).
You will learn to:
• recognize the characteristics of truly essential questions (EQs)
• distinguish between content and process EQs
• use essential questions to “unpack” Standards
• map the curriculum with overarching EQs that spiral across the grades
• apply practical and proven design tools for developing essential questions
• use essential questions as an integral part of teaching for understanding
• create a classroom culture that supports inquiry
In addition, we’ll review a collection of excellent websites containing essential questions and view videos of teachers using EQs in their classrooms.
Your workshop registration includes workshop materials, continental breakfast and on-site lunch, along with a selection of snacks and beverages available during workshop breaks.
